Roberta Lavin, is Professor and Executive Associate Dean of Academic Programs at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, College of Nursing. She spent twenty years as U.S. Public Health Service officer. She began her career at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, DC on an acute psychiatric admission unit for those who were homeless. In her work she has coordinated mass migrations in Guatemala, managed health care in an immigration detention center in Batavia, New York before becoming the Chief of Field Operations of the Division of Immigration Health Services, worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Tucson, Arizona, and spent a few months “tooling around” the South Pacific on a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research vessel.

Dr. Lavin has served as the as the President and Secretary of the Federal Nurses Association, Director of the Society for the Advancement of Disaster Nursing, and the designated federal officer for the National Commission on Children and Disasters. She has received funding for her work in disaster research and program development from ANCC and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, FEMA, and OPRE. She has been funded by HRSA and FIPSE for DNP program development and the inclusion of cultural competency.

Dr. Langan’s clinical expertise is in Adult Medical/Surgical and Community-based nursing. Her research and interests involve disaster preparedness, response and recovery and qualitative methods.

Colleen Leners is the Director of Policy at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) in Washington, D.C. AACN serves as the voice of academic nursing, encompassing education, research, and practice. Dr. Leners was selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow in the office of Senator John Thune (R-SD) of the Senate Finance Committee. Colleen serves on the Case Western Reserve Alumni Board and many committees for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). She has maintained an active family nurse practitioner practice for over 26 years and has served our country in the United States Army Nurse Corps. She has many notable achievements both civilian and military and was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and in American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Leners was awarded the Bronze Star for her service overseas.

Dr. Leners served as a Traumatic Brian Injury Program manager, created a nurse-managed primary care clinic for Wounded Warriors at Navy Medical Center San Diego (C5). She has also been a registered nurse and nurse practitioner for nearly four decades.

She received her DNP in Leadership from Case Western Reserve University, MSN FNP from University of San Diego and her BSN from California State University Dominguez Hills.

As Chief Nurse of the American Red Cross, Dr. Linda MacIntyre provides leadership for nurses and other health professionals across the organization. Linda provides vision, direction and support in meeting the Red Cross mission. She oversees health professional volunteer recruitment, engagement and recognition, and provides oversight for Academic Service Learning. As Chief Nurse, Linda represents the Red Cross and collaborates with federal and civilian health and nursing organizations, government agencies, universities, hospitals and other key stakeholders.

Linda participated in community coalitions and was a member of the Medical Reserve Corps Steering Committee in Kansas City. She was the director of community health and youth for the Red Cross Greater Kansas City Region and engaged students from 10 universities and colleges. She was responsible for disaster health response across five counties and convened a forum for community partners to improve disaster preparedness, response and recovery through collaboration. Linda served on the National Advisory Committee on Children and Disasters from 2014-2018.

Dr. Cole is a clinical psychologist and Manager of Disaster Health and Mental Health Services at the American Red Cross National Headquarters. Dr. Cole has been with the American Red Cross since 1999, beginning her career as a volunteer in Rochester NY with the Disaster Mental Health team. In 2005 and 2006, Dr. Cole assisted in developing and implementing the New York State Office of Mental Health and Department of Public Health training, Disaster Mental Health: A Critical Response. She has written curricula on provision of disaster mental health services related to substance abuse and mental illness during disaster and has published on social support and recruitment and retention of volunteers. Valerie came to National Headquarters in 2011 as Senior Associate for Disaster Mental Health. In 2013, she was promoted to Manager for Disaster Health Services and Disaster Mental Health. In that position, she shepherded the creation of the Disaster Spiritual Care Function and oversaw the health and mental health programs, ensuring that the health and mental health services offered by the American Red Cross utilize best practices and the most current evidence-based strategies in the disaster response field.

Professor Jason Farley is a nurse practitioner for the Division of Infectious Diseases AIDS Service within the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His portfolio of research includes the development of multi-component interventions designed to improve HIV treatment and prevention across the cascade of care. Through innovative technological solutions, improvements and advancement of task-sharing approaches, or nurse and/or peer case management interventions, Dr. Farley’s work has a large clinical impact on care and prevention of HIV and tuberculosis.

Dr. Fowler Durham, seamlessly integrates excellence in teaching with long experience in practice and scholarship to improve the ways faculties prepare the future nursing workforce. As a member of the RWJFs Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) project, she developed simulation-based educational experiences that reflect cutting-edge pedagogy. Dr. Durham has made significant and sustained contributions in IPE and is a leader in preparing faculty to integrate quality and safety into their curriculum and their teaching.

Dr. KT Waxman is a nurse leader with over 30 years of experience in health care and corporate settings. She is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of San Francisco, and is the Director of the Executive Leadership DNP program. She is the Director of the California Simulation Alliance (CSA) at HealthImpact. An internationally known speaker and author, Waxman is also a past president of the Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL) and past board member, serving as Treasurer, for the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). She is active in numerous committees for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and serves on the Finance Committee for the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL).
